New iPhone Launch!

By Woven Agency, Thursday September 14, 2017

So, this week has seen the highly anticipated launch of the brand-new Apple iPhones. Yes, plural. They’ve decided to release a trio of newbies. The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. Overkill?

The launch event saw Apple bigwigs announce a litany of brand spanking new features that are to be rolled out across the new trio of smartphone models. And let’s face it, after the seriously underwhelming releases of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, they really needed to pull something out the bag to whet worldwide appetites. So, let’s take a look at what’s on offer….

iPhone 8 and 8 Plus

So, on the face of it, the 8 and 8 Plus look incredibly similar to the various 6 and 7 models from yesteryear. They’ve kept the same screen design and retained the home button with 3D and Touch ID technology. But that’s pretty much where the similarities end. The smallest memory size of 32GB has been ditched in favour of a minimum 64GB memory – Hallelujah! But, they weren’t really left with a choice seeing as the technology that comes with the phone as standard is the size of a small elephant. Both the iPhone 8 models feature the new ‘AirPower’ technology which means you will be able to charge your iPhone wirelessly – but only on a certain Apple ‘pad’ and this won’t be released until 2018. The superior camera setup is perfect for a selfie moment or 20 with a 12MP camera featuring a Quad-LED True Tone flash.

There’s an awful lot more features for the 8 models but let’s get to the juicy bit, the iPhone X.

iPhone X

The biggy, the one that every single loyal Apple soldier has been waiting for – the X. Apple have certainly changed up a gear with this one and unsurprisingly, have left their competitors feeling a little worried. The iPhone X features everything the 8 and 8 Plus do, plus a whole host of fancy (some may say sexy) new technology features. So, on the face of it the X looks nothing like any of its predecessors. In fact, I’d be tempted to say it doesn’t look like an iPhone at all. The technology giant has done away with the familiar home button and expanded the screen so it’s an edge-to-edge OLED display – amazing. This takes the standard screen size to a whopping 5.8″. So how do you get in the phone with no home button for Touch ID? Face ID! Apple have included the pioneering technology of face recognition software in to the X, meaning you just have to look at your iPhone to unlock it. The epitome of laziness and brilliance all in one! But don’t worry about hackers, Apple have announced that the chances of being able to hack your phone and unlock it will literally be 1 in a million thanks to its new tech. You’ll also be pleased to know that the X features a brand-new processor which is (supposed) to be 30% faster than the iPhone 8. This coupled with the fact that the camera is AR (Augmented Reality) ready, will inevitably lead to an influx of more complex apps with ridiculous capabilities and give game and app designers the chance to make some serious money.

One BIG driver for people to buy one of the new model 8’s over the X? The price. The iPhone 8 starts at a reasonable £699 and the 8 Plus £799. The iPhone X though – the starting price on this bad boy is an eye-watering £999 – that’s just one British pound off one, thousand, pounds. Wow, just wow. Some would argue that the technology that the X features is more than worth the money, but £1,000 for a mobile phone is a pretty big ask. We can see more people veering toward the 8 based purely on price point.

Right, I could literally write about the new iPhone’s all day long, the list of features and tech that they come with is enormous but I really should be wrapping this up!

Let us know your thoughts on the new releases, the good, the bad and the ugly. It’s going to be interesting to see people’s take on these new technology powerhouses.
